Happy New Year!!!
OK so I am a little premature here with my New year journal prompts, or maybe I am late depending on when you’re reading this. Either way the message remains the same.

2020
I am sure I am not alone in feeling a little overwhelmed by the turn of the DECADE! It feels like a huge deal, a momentous occasion in fact. Sure I’ll feel no different, i’ll even spend a month writing 2019!
But I want to take the opportunity for a little self reflection…
2010 VS 2020 New year journal prompts
The perfect way to do this? Picking up my journal of course!
This January, I am going to look back at 2010 Claire Vs 2020 Claire. What I have learnt, what I have achieved, how life has changed and then everything in between.
How amazing would it be to look back in 2030 and see how you felt at the change of this decade, how life has changed in 10 or 20 years, to document this for all time?
I honestly believe it could be really valuable. Time flashes past us at an alarming rate and I think keeping a journal can offer us time to reflect each day but most importantly over a greater amount of years.
New year journal prompts
- How is your 2020 starting?
- Do you remember how your 2010 began?
- Describe your life currently?
- What was your situation in 2010?
- If you could tell 2010 you something, what would it be?
- What moment stands out as a key moment in the last 10 years?
- Have there been any times of real difficulty since 2010?
- What would you change if you had the chance to go back in time?
- Are there any moments you’d like to re-live?
- 5 Lessons you’ve learnt in 10 years
- What is your biggest priority right now?
- Have your priorities changed much since 2010?
- How have you changed since 2010?
- In 2010, what did you leave behind in the previous decade?
- What will you be leaving behind in 2019?
Half way through January… Be strong!

29. Choose one word to sum up 2010-2020
30. What word would you like to use as a focus for this year coming?
31. How has the first month of the new decade been for you?
Do you think it is important to mark the changing of the decades or do you feel that every new year is a new start?
I’ll be honest and say that most New year’s I hit a bit of a low patch. I look back over a year where I may not have achieved what I would have liked to and instead I focus on the negatives. I have been like this for as long as I can remember if I am honest.
This year I wanted to make sure I didn’t slip in to that mindset. I have so many wonderful things to look forward to that I need a focus, a place to reflect on previous years and all the positives they bought with them and what the years ahead hold for me.
Will you be keeping a journal this year? Have you got a lot to look forward to this coming year?

I love these prompts! I am looking to write in my journal more in 2020 and this is a great tool to make it happen!

And you Sarah, merry Christmas x x
Love these prompts! I havenโt gotten into journaling but maybe in the next 1-10 years I can manage! Itโs good to be able to reflect and look back on all the different memories we might not always recall so quickly!
It is so easy to forget just how much has happened over 10 years. I can’t wait for the next 10 x
Gosh your right it is quite significant with us starting a new decade! These are the types of questions I should be asking myself. Thanks for the prompts.
I found it really interesting to think about these prompts. This decade has definitely seen huge change in my life – getting married, buying a house, having children etc. I canโt wait to see what the new decade will have in store for me and my family!
It’s an exciting thought isn’t it x x
This is such a good post! I too feel like 2020 is such a momentous year – not only because it has a great ring to it, but I feel motivated by it for some reason! I have a business coach and he recommends having a journal, so these are some brilliant prompts to start the year with, thank you!
I totally get that, it feels like big things are coming. Happy New year to you x x
Love your prompts! Can’t believe we’re going into a new decade!
Thank you! It’s crazy isn’t it x
I must admit I have filled out my Bullet Journal almost daily – but more with “things to do” rather than thinking more deeply about where I am headed. So it’s Goals that prompt me most and I dutifully head up that path. Decade wise I usually gloss over that and it’s the yearly thing that I make good note of. Thanks for the reminder post – I liked it anyway!
Thank you Deborah x
Honestly, I never get into such prompts because things are certainly going to change a lot over a period of 10 years. Happiness is a mental state. Some comparison is fine to know where you are headed and to achieve success.
I love the concept of reflecting back 10 years and looking forward 10 years. I always include journal prompts at the end of my blog posts. Journaling is a powerful way to express ourselves throughout our journey. Often times we find our growth through the journaling process. Peace and blessings!
There is so much I would tell my 2010 self, but then my life now might be completely different. My son was born 2011, my daughter 2013. By 2030 they will have both done their GCSEs, might even be thinking of A levels if they still exist.. me I will have much more grey hair… I know that I need to relax more and stop worrying but that is very hard to do.
Itโs so good to take time to focus on the changes but also what is to come. Scary to think how grown up our children will be. My son will be 22!!!!
Yes that is scary, if id had a baby with my ex, then they could be about 22 now as well. Where do the years go? my two will be 7 and 9.. (they were just 5 and 7 when I started my blog in October 2018) all the best for 2020 x
I love journaling! It’s therapy. Thanks for sharing some really good ideas to ponder over.
Thank you x x
These are great reflective prompts! I Love them! Thanks for sharing some thought-provoking ideas. I think it’s very important to reflect on lessons learning from the past, understand the blessings that have come into our lives, and activate our inspiration to push full-throttle into the new year with a clear mind and ready heart. I know I have a strong feeling that 2020 will be an amazing year and I can’t wait. But I want to make sure I don’t take any toxic damage into the new decade with me!
Such a good way to move forward in to the new year. Thank you for reading x x
Iโve been thinking about starting to journal. Thank you for the tips!
Enjoy Beth x x
You offer great questions to reflect on the passing of this decade. I take stock of every year, but as a writer I’m going to take a serious look back over the past decade to see how, of if I’ve progressed the way I’d hoped I would. There’s also been many changes in my personal life–losses and gains–that need reflection.
I think itโs so important to be able to reflect as well as look forward x
Absolutely agree! Happy New Year!
Some great prompts for people that like to journal
What great prompts! One of my main goals for 2020 is to do a lot more journalling so I’m going to keep these in mind for some inspiration! x
Thank you Amy, happy new year to you x x
Happy new year to you too! ๐
