The Jingle All The Way Christmas Tag

Thank you to Karina from Mum’s the nerd for the tag.

You know I am partial to a good ol’ tag post and also a big Christmas fan. What could be better than a Christmas tag??

Let’s do this….

Where will you be celebrating Christmas this year?

This year we are hosting at our house. I am not the biggest fan of lots of people in the house, it pushes me out of my comfort zone. We hosted Christmas Eve last year and although it was a lot of work I really enjoyed myself.

Who are you celebrating with?
This year we have our step daughters Christmas Eve night through to Christmas day afternoon so it’ll be the 5 of us, my Dad and Rob’s parents. I genuinely can’t wait, plus Rob is cooking!

Do you own any ugly Christmas jumpers?
No I do not! I own several lovely Christmas jumpers though.

How do you spend Christmas Eve?
Christmas Eve is by far my favourite day of the year, better than Christmas in fact. The elves bring us Christmas Eve hampers with lots of fun things to do that day. This year we won’t have the girls until later in the day so it’ll be a housework and prep kind of morning. Although Rob is cooking Christmas day, F and I will help do the prep. Then we have all our friends and their children coming over for an afternoon movie, The Polar express of course. We will build a big massive floor bed and all snuggle in our PJ’s eating snacks and swapping presents. Then the evening will be Rob and I, a snowball and playing Santa.

Do you have a decorating theme?
No not at all! But I also don’t go nuts. I have a new tree in the front room which is full of beautiful coloured lights and blue and silver decorations and some lights around the fire. The family room is a more Nordic feel, lots of red and white decorations with white lights.I love a good plaque all year round and have a wall (or 2) in the kitchen, these get swapped out for festive ones.

Do you have a tree topper?
A fairy on top of each tree, although I feel my new 7 foot tree really needs a star.

What’s been your least favourite gift that you have received?
I can’t really think to be honest.I did once get a gift back that I’d given them the year before.

What would you like to find in your stocking this year?
Stationary! Always stationary.

When did you start buying gifts this year?
I buy all year round normally, this year I was a little late, It was probably around July time.

Have you ever recycled a gift?
No, but I have donated unwanted gift sets to raffles at school.

 What’s your favourite Christmas food?
I am not a huge roast dinner fan anyway, but Rob has been practising his roast potatoes and Vegetables and I am really looking forward to having them all.

What do you leave out for Santa?
Gin and Tonic! I heard he really likes it. A mince pie or some mincemeat filled cookies (If Tesco sell them again this year)

 Have you ever been carolling?
Yes when I was a child with some friends. We made about £30 which in the early nineties was pretty good going. It started snowing, it was straight out of a Christmas film!

What do you usually have for Christmas dinner?
Turkey, slow cooked gammon, Roast potatoes, Roast parsnips and carrots, Peas, Stuffing, Pigs in blankets and yummy thick gravy. The works!

When do you open gifts?

When I was a child it was stockings, breakfast then presents. This year we have all the children so I think it’ll be presents as soon as we are up.

How do you spend Boxing day?

Tidying up, unwinding and generally not doing much. Although there is usually a gathering at the In-Laws.

Describe a Christmas present you wanted badly as a kid, but never received

We were talking about this the other day. It was a Mr Frosty, but this appears to be on everyone’s list. If everyone I know wanted one but never got one, did anyone actually GET one for Christmas??The one thing I really wanted was a barbie house but I never got it.

Have you ever kissed anyone under the mistletoe?

You know what? I don’t think I have! I will have to change that this year.

What’s your favourite character from a Christmas-themed movie, book, or TV special?

Buddy! No thought required there at all. I feel like inside me is a little Christmas Elf, he is my Christmas spirit

If you were Santa Claus, what treats would you want to be left out for you on Christmas Eve?

Gin, some pringles and some chocolate

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

I have a list that I love, but Elf will forever be my favourite. I could watch it all year round!

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

In 2010, my friend and I spent the 23rd December together. She watched my son while I went to a job interview and then we were having the rest of the day full of Christmas fun and dinner out.It snowed, a lot! And it just kept coming. It was really lovely, fluffy snow and we had the best day.It didn’t then snow on Christmas day but there was some snow on the ground.I am sure I have had one when I was much younger but this one was so special, it really sticks in my mind.

Where do you usually spend your holidays?

At home and at the family homes.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

Fairytale of New York by the Pogues. I even sang it once with some random guy I’d never met at a friend’s gig! I probably butchered it but ya know!

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

We have Christmas eve boxes for the kids but other than that no.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer? (No cheating!)

Dasher and dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid, Donner and Blitzen and the most famous of all Rudolph! Yes I sang it while I typed

Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

Elf on the shelf, Christmas Eve and just all the family time.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake, I’d love real but it’s the mess and then I just know it’ll sit dying in the garden until July!

What is your favourite holiday treat/sweet/food?

I love stolen, In fact I just don’t even buy it because it’s a slippery slope!

Be honest, do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

Giving without a doubt! I love taking my time choosing what to give people, This year has been particular hard to not blab about what I have bought people.

What is the best Christmas present that you have ever received?

Rob made me a piece of art last year, he hates it but I adore it. I can’t share it with you because I know he’d hate it but I honest will treasure it forever.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?.

New York! But it must be snowy and just like every Christmas film I have ever watched!

Are you a pro wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I am Semi-Pro level I think. Depends how far I am in to the process!

 Most memorable Christmas moment?

I have so many wonderful moments from almost every Christmas, I think I’d be hard pushed to pick just one.

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I can’t even remember when I stopped believing, I don’t remember how I felt about it either but I was upset at the lack of stocking. Although Mum did carry on for a few years.I should have clicked sooner, every year me and my brother would open our stockings and Mum would say ‘Oh dear, looks like Santa has these mixed up’ and swap whatever it was over. Looking back I should have guessed that it was just Mum being forgetful!

What makes the holidays special for you?

It is so magical, from the planning to the day its self. I just love all the additional family time that happens over Christmas, more people have time off so it’s a great opportunity to catch up with everyone and it just feels so cosy and heart-warming.I love it!

And that’s it. I am feeling full of festive festi-ness right now and I am excited for whats to come over the next 2 weeks.
