As our tour of local National Trust properties continues, the next stop was a fun family day out at Charlecote park in Warwickshire.
A fun Family day out at Charlecote Park
Thanks to a beautifully sunny day and with Charlecote park only being 40 minutes from home, it was a great oppourtunity to visit.
Having visited as a child, I knew the children would enjoy exploring the garden and space that it had to offer. I was hoping we’d be able to bribe the children to allow us some time in the house as I’d never been inside.
From the outside, it is definitely an impressive house! It would be a shame to come all this way and not be able to have a good look around.
Thankfully, as with most National trust properties, they usually have some way of encouraging the children to immerse themselves in the history of their properties. This time, the children were encouraged to spot all the hiding deer in the house. The guide then asked for them to come back and tell him how many they found. They were then rewarded with a sticker. Seriously, kids are so easy to please!
I think my favourite part was being able to climb up to the gate house to watch the bells go off. Once the children knew the bell was not going to deafen them they loved it too. Plus the view it offered of the house and gardens were definitely worth it.
Parklands
The Capability Brown parklands did not disappoint and the addition of the deer made for an interesting walk.
We were able to get very close to a herd of them hiding from the sun under some trees. This was until a guide came over and warned us to stay back as they were getting agitated…
From where I was stood they seemed to be a little on the randy side not agitated, but hey I’m no deer expert!
There were trees to climb, space to run around and plenty of areas to picnic, essential on a sunny day out.
Verdict on our visit to Charlecote Park
At £27.50 for a family ticket, this is a great value day out. Of course, if you are National trust members, you’d get in for free.
Between the house, grounds and various walks available you could easily make a full day of your visit. We took some outdoor toys as well knowing that there would be room to play.
We will definitely visit later in the year as well, I can imagine both Autumn and during the Christmas period would be quite spectacular.
In fact, I think this might well be in our top 5 National trust properties now.
