A family day out at Biddulph Grange garden was first on our National trust hit list after buying our passes for the year. Neither of us had visited before but as we were staying close by in Congleton, it made sense to check it out.

The sun shone for us, the picnic was made and a reluctant F was ready to get going.
We arrived early and I’m so glad we did. It would have cost us around £25 to get in so I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to feeling a little smug as we just walked in.
We wouldn’t normally but due to a lack of coffee at the caravan the first stop was the on site cafe. Good coffee and a very pretty cake collection along with a varied menu meant there was a great choice. We were well behaved and just settled on a coffee.
The house is lived in so you only have access to the gardens. Now if you ask my parents, they’ll happily tell you gardens really are not my forte. Here though, I couldn’t help but be impressed by how grand it was. I felt like I’d travelled the world in just a few hours.
The Egyptian pyramids, the Chinese garden and even the Himalayan’s. It was all so authentic that it was easy to forget that you were in the heart of the UK.
Even F had to give in and embrace it all, helped I think by finding the hidden play area. It was spread out through a wooded area and had us all climbing and walking rope bridges until we reached the end. F even challenged me to a ‘floss off’ on top of a wooden bridge, even though we have established long ago that I have less coordination than cheese, and that could be me doing cheese a disservice!
F was very happy to find some painted rocks that he was able to re-hide as well. Can you spot it?
Overall view
This is very much one of my firm favourites. I was worried that without the pull of the house, there would be little to keep my interest but it was honestly so beautiful. There was plenty of space to walk and explore.
This also meant it didn’t feel too busy which can be off putting at times. Especially during Covid times. This would definitely be a great day out right now.
If you take a picnic with you, there is no reason why you could not spend most of the day here with the family. There is something to keep all entertained and plenty to see.
A day out at Biddulph grange on reflection is a complete bargain! And certainly somewhere we will visit all over again.

Ah we love it there too. Small boy loves running down the avenue to the giant weetabix bowl at the end. The country park next door is lovely too, especially in autumn with the beech trees.
