Yep you heard me, I am taking a stand! Lockdown can’t ruin Christmas for us this year. We all know it won’t be as we planned. There will be things that we can’t do, people we can’t see and places we can’t visit. But let’s put two fingers up to that and in todays Blogmas post, we can look at the things we should be focusing on instead.
8 ways lockdown can’t ruin Christmas for us this year
1. Being with our bubble
I know we’ve all spent a lot of time in our bubble this year but this is a lovely time of year to be at home. The weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful and all that.
There are so many magical things we can do at home together that will leave us feeling all warm and Christmassy.

2. Be imaginative
Everyone has embraced this ‘new normal’ and found ways to celebrate with friends and family. If you’re missing Christmas parties and social gatherings, think outside the box to still have these experiences.
You could organise a zoom party, take part in a murder mystery or have a festive quiz with all your friends.
Drive by present drops are definitely going to be popular this year.
3. At home cinema visits
If Christmas isn’t complete without a visit to the cinema with the whole family, don’t let Lockdown stop you.
Turn the lights off, put those twinkly Christmas lights on and choose the ultimate Christmas movie. Fill your faces with Popcorn and keep the hot chocolate flowing. Why stop at just one film. Just think of the money you’ll save!

4. Deck the halls
All of the halls. Every surface in your home deserves some festive cheer this year. Twinkly lights, make your own paperchains, spread glitter and tinsel every where.
If we have to be home this year then we may as well make it as pretty as possible.

5. Enjoy others decorations
Over the years the amount of people decorating the front of their houses has definitely increased. One of my favourite things to do at this time of year is drive round and look at them all.
You could even combine with your daily exercise and have a walk round the neighbourhood, taking in all the pretty lights.
6. Virtual shopping events
Christmas build up and the shopping is a lot of fun. I personally love going to Christmas fairs to support small businesses. This year they aren’t going ahead but those clever organisers have taken to facebook. Using it for good.
Many many virtual shopping events have popped up on Facebook recently and they are so clever. Thanks to this I have been able to find local businesses to support while completing my Christmas shopping. Your local market place may also hide some treasures for you.
If you’re missing these events, you definitely need to check this out.

7. Don’t give up on your traditions
Whatever your annual Christmas traditions are, try to keep them up. You may have to do them in a very different way but I am sure you can find a way to make it work.
8. Stay Safe
We’ve been given this time with our family. I know it might seem like a complete shit-show (it is!) but the Government could have said a straight ‘No Mixing’ rule.
Stay at home as much as you can on the run up to Christmas. Wash your hands, make space and wear your masks so you reduce the risk to your chosen ‘Mixing’ bubbles.
Enjoy this precious time, its been cruelly taken from us this year and I think it is fair to say we’ve all learnt a lot about what matters.

No matter what your Christmas looks like this year, enjoy every moment of it. We’ve all had to get through a lot this year to reach it. It’s a long road ahead for us all. My heart goes out to you all, honestly. And I know some of us won’t get to be with those we love this year but we’ve made it this far. It’s time to celebrate.
Do you feel that Christmas has been ruined this year? If so has this post changed your mind? What will you do to make it feel as normal as possible?

Loved this positive spin! It’s so true, we can still find fun ways to enjoy the holiday season!!
Yea! I also believe that lockdown can’t ruin Christmas for us. I love this. I have decided to rock Christmas regardless of the lockdown lol. Great post! 🔥🔥🔥
I love this post. Christmas can never be ruined. We have to create new traditions but that happens naturally over time anyway, and there are plenty of ways we can stay connected and make the season favourite. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
Not giving up on Family traditions is very important to keep them going especially during these times🎄

What a lovely post! I’m pretty happy with Christmas this year! I won’t be able to visit home but I’m very positive! Thanks a lot for your positivity full post!
We’ve been enjoying Christmas movies for a while now. So many great ones to get you in the Christmas spirit.
I love the positivity! At first, when I read your first paragraph I thought hmm yeah I feel like it’s pretty much a bit ruined this year. But then I kept reading and I realized, you’re right. It’s too cold out and usually when I go to events during this time I always freeze and feel miserable lol. Plus we do have a lot to appreciate at home, the small things are what matter 💕

Now we’re talking! Way to tell the virus who’s boss! There are some lovely ideas here, simple and effective ways for us to get on with Christmas as best we can. Lovely post x
Thanks Thomas! Merry Christmas x
I love this. I actually went all out decorating inside my house this year (Other than the tree, we don’t usually decorate inside) just to make it a little more fun.
I don’t feel like Christmas is ruined per se, It’s just going to be different this year.
At first, I was gutted about Christmas bubbles as I have a massive family. Now, I know that my mum will see her grandchildren and I will see her on video and be at home with my fiance!
Rosie
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your Fiance x x
This will be our first Christmas just the four of us at home, and I am genuinely looking forward to it! I think it’s important to stay positive. Lovely post.
Oh you will have a lovely time, I used to spend Christmas just me and my son but there was no pressure to do anything or please others, it was lovely x
What a great article! I think it’s all going to be about mindset this year in terms of trying to keep the Christmas spirit alive!
I think you’re right, I hope it carries forward as well x
I think most of our traditions we can do as normal. I’m just not able to see my brother which is a bit sad but hey ho!
It’s really sad when we think about those we can’t see but I love being home with my little family x
LOVE this, Claire. You’re right, this year has been a bit of a shit-show but on the plus side, we’ve been given more time to spend with our families. And although I know that’s not always great for everyone, it is for me and I am going to REVEL in it! Thank you, lovely, and Happy Christmas! x
I feel exactly the same, it’s been wonderful for us as a family. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family Lisa x x
Love this post and the positivity behind it! Christmas is going to be so weird for so many people this year but it’s soooo important to take the positives and have hope going forward that next year is going to be okay. Doing what you gotta do to get by 🙂 x
That’s exactly it, we just have to do what we need to make the very most of the time we have got with our families this Christmas x x
These are some great suggestions to enjoy Christmas. I think Christmas will be fun and enjoy time with loved ones. Try and bring a bit of normalcy to this year. Thank you for sharing.

Yes I totally agree, we need to switch off from it even just for a few days and have fun x
I’m loving decorations even more this year because it’s the little things that count right now!
It really is the small things x
Yes to all the festive positivity in this post Claire! Let’s just enjoy Christmas (safely), keep to our bubble or bubbles and just be merry! x

Completely agree, we’ve had to get through a lot to get here, we really need to enjoy it x x
I love this post it’s so full of positivity to lift those spirits. I’m so excited for Christmas! It’s not been the year we imagined but as tough as it’s been there have been a lot of positives! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Linz, I totally agree x
I don’t feel that Christmas has been ruined, at lest not for us. We’re doing things the same as always, small and quiet.
That’s great for you, enjoy your Christmas x
this is such a positive post ! and truth to be told it made me think of a lock down in a more positive way x bring on Christmas movie nights!
Oh I am so pleased! Enjoy your movie nights x
It is going to be a very different Christmas for us. For the first time in years I won’t be able to see my mum, dad, brother, sister and their families. As we are only allowed a three families and there are four of us. It’s such a shame but it’s something we must do.
We are in a bubble with my Dad as he is on his own, but we’ve decided not to see anyone else, we might meet the in laws outside but they have 3 adult children and they were with us last Christmas. It sucks but you’re right x
I am not letting COVID get in the way of my traditions, I mean it’s a little muted this year with the fact I’m cooking for my bubble but still.. I’m keeping up with the traditions the best I can. Such a lovely post
Thank you Sarah, Have a wonderful Christmas x x
I am definitely trying to keep Christmas as normal as possible even though things are way from normal. We haven’t gone to see Santa and this years turning on the towns Christmas lights was cancelled but we’re doing a lot of christmassy home stuff instead 😊
I think its made it so special in a way, I love my family so getting to spend more time at home with them is so important x
This is a lovely post. I think this year, we will see the true meaning of Christmas. Of spending time together (where possible) and of just enjoying our time more. We don’t have to rush around to work parties and other get-togethers. I think it will make a nice change.
That’s exactly it Kelly and its so important x x
Lovely positive post, Christmas is going to be a bit different this year but like you, we’re focusing on doing things differently and lots of fun
I think potentially it could change Christmas forever but in a positive way. I certainly feel less stressed and less pressure to fit everything in x
I think it’s so important for us to be positive and think about the things we can do as opposed to what we may have missed out on. I’ve loved watching Christmas movies, baking and having loads of decorations up x
Me too! I think we will all step in to Christmas differently from now on. We will learn what is really important about the season x
I’m of the opinion that, just because Christmas will be different this year, it doesn’t mean it is ruined. Christmas to me is still a religious celebration and that can be achieved regardless of the restrictions.
Exactly that, It’s special no matter what happens x
Thankfully it won’t affect us too much to be honest. The main thing is the kids will still have fun especially if I follow some of these great suggestions xxx
Thanks Melanie, I hope you have a lovely Christmas x x
You are so right! I am not going to let lockdown ruin our Christmas! I am doing most of what you have stated here from staying in our bubble to doing online shopping to putting up decorations and enjoying home Christmas themed shows
I hope you have a magical Christmas x x
I absolutely love this post, virtual shopping trips, and home cinemas are my jam, I am excited to spend Christmas with my bubble.
Me too!! I am so excited for the coming weeks, i love the build up just as much x x
Thanks for sharing, these are great tips, to not let the bad get us down 🙂
We definitely need to try and make the most of Christmas this year x x
It is lovely to see people going all out with their decorations this year, there are some lovely ones around here
I agree, We are going out walking tomorrow night to see some of the best ones x x
I love how positive this post is! We’ve all got to make the best of it and really the heart of Christmas is the love we share for the important people in our lives xx

I completely agree x x
I love this post! A bit of positivity in a funny old time! Thank you for this.
Love this post. Lovely to think positively. We embraced decorations early and decked the halls everywhere, has really lifted my spirits. Even if we can’t see family due to distance we are going to make it special at home for the kids.
Great tips! Hubby and I, both are not party animals! We don’t enjoy crowded parties, places whatever! Basically, we love celebrating any festival at home with/without our loving family like by watching movies, making yummy food, decorating the home, etc. ❤️So lockdown doesn’t make any difference to us this year 🙂
Love this. It’s so important to remain positive this Christmas even with all of the craziness that Covid has brought with us. We have embraced putting Christmas touches in as many rooms of our house as we can, so no matter where we are it feels Christmasy. We are lucky in a way that covid really doesn’t change our usual Christmas plans, as it’s always been just the day with the three of us at home enjoying time together and presents.
Great advice here Claire! Our Christmas plans haven’t really changed – we’re bubbled with my granny who lives on her own, and we’re carers for my other granny who also lives alone. Neither of them go out anywhere, and we see them frequently as we are able to whilst being safe. So we have the two of them for Christmas as had always been the plan even before Covid! Hope you have a merry and safe one 💖
I have loved the virtual shopping markets on facebook and I have brought a few pressies from there
I for one am thoroughly excited for Christmas!
