Tyntesfield was a half-way point from home to our campsite and came highly recommended. It was an ideal stop off for a picnic and somewhere to walk off the car journey and of course let the children run off some steam.
I hadn’t done much research in to what was on offer as it was mainly a stopping point. I knew though when we arrived to find a huge carpark that it was going to be a big place and it did not disappoint!
The grounds were immense, I certainly wasn’t expecting to not be able to see the house on our approach! I knew then it was going to be good.
The house is massive and we visited at a good time as they are in the process of updating all the fire alarm systems. This allowed for them to share some great history on the property, show how the work is being done and what they have had to do in order to protect the building and its contents. The children really enjoyed looking for facts, finding clues and trying on firefighter hats from throughout history… Ok not just the kids!
The tour finishes with most beautiful church I have ever seen. The whole place was filled with history, to the point you could just imagine exactly what it must have been like when it was used as a home. The decoration and furnishing was grand but elegant and I think it was by far one of my favourite houses to date.
As it was a quick stop we didn’t have time to explore all the grounds had to offer but it certainly seemed to cater for those who like the outdoors and a good walk. I’d like to return once all the work is completed just to see the difference and to explore some of the areas we couldn’t access well.
