The Lockdown Silver linings tag

I love a tag post, and the Lockdown silver linings tag created by Emily from Twin Mummy and Daddy is right up my street.

You all know I love a bit of positivity and this has it in spades.

I appreciate that we are all currently living in odd and unsettling times, but it is so important that we take this rare opportunity and try to make it a positive experience. Where possible at least.

The Lockdown Silver linings tag

Here are my silver linings.

Firstly, I have to say that I am incredibly grateful to work in a sector that will almost guarantee that I’ll be able to continue working. As it stands, I am working from home and going in to school once every 2 weeks.

My Dad’s garden

The second silver lining is my Dad’s lovely garden. Having such a wonderful space has meant that I have been able to drop off essentials to him and sit and have a natter in the garden wit a cuppa.

It has made isolation much easier for us both and I do worry about him spending so much time on his own. Although as he reminds me, this is his normal, but this time has really made me appreciate how difficult it must be to be on your own all the time.

I can’t wait to give him a hug. It has certainly made me appreciate our relationship and the difficulties he must feel day to day.

I am going to add sunshine to this lining! Because lets face it, without the recent sunshine, I think this self isolation would be much more depressing. At least when the sun is out we generally feel a bit brighter and it makes our daily exercise more pleasurable as well as being able to enjoy the garden.

Family time

I think as a family, we do pretty well for making time for each other. Making sure we fill our weekends with lots of lovely activities.

This last week has finally found us settling in to a better home/work balance. I feel much more efficient with my time, we have been able to spend some time doing much needed home improvements as well as spending quality time with the children.

Slowing down

There is no denying that this time has made us slow down, recharge and re-evaluate. It’s a time where we can use our time however we see fit, even if we are working for a big proportion of the day.

Rob is home all day now rather than out for almost 12 hours. I am not leaving the house at 7.30 every day, leaving F to get himself out the house for school and come home to an empty house.

Every day is no longer a rush to get everything done and I feel much more on top of things in general. I have even done some of the things that I normally Don’t!

Friendships

Its weird, that at a time where we are all so distant, I feel closer to my friends than ever before. I guess this time apart brings perspective.

But also the time to focus on our relationships. Most of us have struggled in some way with this whole situation and it makes you tune in more and keep an eye on each other.

I have even managed to squeeze a couple of sightings of my friends, at the recommended social distance of course! But fighting my every urge to give them a hug, I never knew how much of a huger I was until I was told I couldn’t do it!

Now it’s your turn to share your Lockdown silver linings. I tag

Leo, The anxious teacher
Ashley, Irish Twins Momma
Justine, The Tea Chest
Hannah, Four Fox Sake
Katie, Life with Ktkinnes

Enjoy this time, enjoy lockdown silver linings and stay safe everyone!

  1. I’m still going to work so have social time there. Just finishing a four day long weekend at home. When the weather is nice out for walks. Also friends and I have settled into Skyping Saturday afternoon for a glass of wine/beverage with each other. Also I find I am touching base with people especially people living alone. Silver lining is more time for reflection for me.

The sunshine really has made it a bit easier with the lockdown. With lockdown, it can take a little time to find our feet. I don’t think I’ve managed that properly myself yet. I need to work on that. Ha, I’m a hugger, can’t wait until this is all over!

While the current pandemic is certainly serious and challenging, it is so important that people try to find the positives for the sake of everyone’s mental health. Our family is enjoying more card games and board games. It’s great you’re seeing your Dad, I know the hardest part of this for my Mom has been not seeing people.

  27. Dear Claire,

Lovely to make your acquaintance via Twitter. I’m a writer, so lockdown has had a few silver linings for me. You do have your hands full, though. Here it’s just my husband and myself. He’s revamping his office. We’re both exercise nuts so that helps. I paint as well. At any rate, I enjoyed your post. May we all be exchanging hugs with our friends and distanced loved ones soon.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
