1. What’s your favourite thing about October?

I love October for so many reasons. So much so I wrote about the reasons I love Autumn. But I think the top of that list has to be the change of seasons. Suddenly its colder, the trees are changing colour and I can start counting down to Christmas!!

 2. Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?

Honestly? Not hugely but I think that stems from my Mum. She hated it. It was actually their wedding anniversary and 40 years ago, Halloween had not really caught on here. She’d always have a sign on the door ‘NO TRICK OR TREATERS’

This year though, I have really embraced it. My house has a growing collection of pumpkins and I am currently shopping for a wreath for the door. We are also working our way through lots of spooky halloween films this year and I am enjoying it more than I expected!

3. What’s your favourite horror movie?

I loved them as a Teenager but then I grew up and lived alone and became a big wuss! It’s only since meeting Rob that I have started watching them again.

I prefer things that are creepy rather than outright horror. One that I have just watched that really creeped me out was I am the pretty thing that lives in the house.

It’s a Netflix film and although not a huge amount happens, it is the way it unfolds and is narrated that makes this film so so good!

4. Would you rather a cosy night in watching horrors or a big night out in a costume?

Cosy night in watching horror films. Although maybe that’s just because 2020 is dictating that is how we will all be celebrating!

We’ve had a lot of fun at parties in previous years.

5. Which has been your most favourite costume to date?

I wish I had a picture but it was rather a long time ago! My Mum created a witch outfit for me using a bin bag. Yes seriously a bin bag! Supermarkets didn’t sell costumes 30 years ago!

She back combed my hair and covered it in talcum powder and added some scary face paint. I absolutely loved it. I think I might have won a prize for that one!

6. Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?

Bobbing for apples all the way! It’s silly and hilarious to watch and always becomes pretty competitive!

7. How do you celebrate Halloween?

Normally it would be a night in for us. This year it would have been my Hen do! So I am hoping to still catch up with my two Bridesmaids on the night depending on restrictions.

I am not sure what we will do, maybe some spooky cocktails will need to be consumed!

8. What’s your least favourite horror?

Rob’s recently made me watch Frankenstein, what a load of old tosh!

9. Do you have a favourite trick or treating memory?

About 5 years ago, all the neighbours were out trick or treating. The kids were all dressed up and it ended up like a street party.

Unfortunately because we were all out in the street, there were no doors to knock on! So we ended up dishing out all our sweets to the children in handfuls.

They thought all their Halloween’s had come at once. While the children ran round on a sugar high, the adults riffled through the goodies. It was a lovely night and had a real community feel to it.

10. What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?

I think in honesty it’s the fact that it’s my parents wedding anniversary. Now she is no longer here, I like to mark the day with my Dad in some way as I know he struggles.

11. Scary costume or Silly costume?

Silly! Some of the scary costumes are pretty terrifying. I’d hate to scare small children!

12. What’s your favourite Halloween candy?

Double lollies! When F has been Trick or Treating, I have a double Lolly tax. This means for taking him and his friends out, I get rewarded with double lollies. Yummy!

13. Ghost decorations or skeleton decorations?

Skeleton’s! I think if I had a ghost hanging up somewhere I would constantly jump every time I saw it. We live in a Victorian house and although I don’t ever feel spooked here, a fake ghost would convince me it was haunted!

  3. This is such a fun post, we live on a main road so we never really get trick or treaters, there’s a little girl (9/10) next door but one and she’s pretty much the only one we get. I normally stay in for Halloween too x

  9. We don’t do anything special for Halloween except buy sweets for the kids that come to the door all dressed up . Some of those masks are really scary. As for horror movies I am a scaredy-cat so I don’t watch them. The tag was nice to read .

  10. Great tag! I was tagged in this from someone and although I never do tag posts anymore, I’m definitely tempted with this one because I loveeee Autumn and Halloween and anything spooky. I’m so excited to start delving into all the scary films now it’s October 1st! Loved your answers too 🙂 xxx

Omg this is such a fun tag, I love reading about other people’s thoughts and views on Halloween. I REALLY want to watch “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” – it looks so atmospheric and good! I definitely agree with you on liking creepy movies instead of scary movies – I hate being scared at night!

    1. clairelomax2018 says:

I watched Woman in Black at the weekend, I am amazed I have slept since!

I love spooky horror that’s told in a beautiful way, or in a way that’s like an unfolding story. I’ll need to look for the movie you mentioned! This was so much fun to do. 😀 Also, I’m soooo jealous you live in a Victorian house.

    1. clairelomax2018 says:

Oh I do love my home so much. It’s a lot of work to get it to where we want it but it is so worth it x

  20. What a fun tag, I have to admit I do like autumn as well! There is something awesome about all the colours and the weather not being too hot or too cold.

  21. We don’t celebrate Halloween where I’m from, but I can sense your excitement towards it! It’s such an interesting festival and I wish that we celebrated it here just so I can dress up in a silly costume and go knocking on doors.

On a side note, I love horror films. I’m a little different from you though. I need my horror films to be filled with cheap jump scares that scare the living daylights out of me hahaha!

  22. Mehsi says:

I love October because it’s the beginning of fall, which is my favorite season. I have always enjoyed seeing the trick or treaters.

  25. This is such a fun tag post! I remember bobbing for apples when I was a kid!

  26. Natasha Evans says:

Such a fun tag! The main reason I love October is because it’s my birthday on the 3rd, haha! It’s my favourite season and month of the year!

  27. Melanie williams says:

Haha such a fun post for sure. Our Halloween party has had to be cancelled so gutted, as it is a fun season

  28. I don’t usually celebrate Halloween but I do like to come up with some spooky new recipes for my blog if i can find the time.

  29. Halloween is huge round here – maybe because it’s a very active community anyway. The streets are filled with kids in costumes, and people put carved pumpkins (and increasingly full-on decorations – people are now including sound effects!) outside their houses if they’re taking part, so there’s no need for ‘no trick or treater’ signs!
This year looks to be very different, so we’re all taking about how we can make it fun for the kids as we can’t do the traditional trick or treating. But I’m sure there will still be plenty of dressing up and eating sweets, so it’ll still be fun.

  30. I’ve never watched I am The Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, I might give it a watch this afternoon!

  31. I can’t believe it is October already which only means that Halloween is not too far off. Hallotober sounds like a fab idea to get involved it

  32. Oooh I am excited for Halloween! It is good that your household embraced it more this year. I am all about the decor! Skeleton decorations are pretty cool. I’ve seen some where people would have a skeleton in the passenger seats of their car too LOL!

    Nancy ✨ exquisitely.me

  33. What a cool tag! I’m pretty much the same when it comes to Halloween, I don’t really embrace it but since having kids, it’s kind of hard not to. This year though, it’ll all be so different. I’ve gone right off scary movies too – used to love them but, again, since having kids I just can’t cope!

  34. This is such a fun tag! I love October, especially Halloween, so I am definitely going to do this!

  35. Reading your post makes me miss celebrating Halloween. I always had so much fun when I was younger dressing up as Hermione or Hayley Williams from Paramore and driving around to go trick-or-treating or when I was older, attending house parties. I don’t celebrate it as often anymore though I still love the idea of dressing up for Halloween. However, I don’t like horror movies – they freak me out so much. I prefer Halloween movies that are not scary – something like Corpse Bride or Hotel Transylvania 😂

  36. My mum used to go all out for Halloween, so it has rubbed off on me, although we collected money for charity rather than sweets for us. I am disappointed we won’t be trick or treating this year

  37. I am loving all these Blogtober and Hallowtober posts. So good to get to know other bloggers this way. My family Halloween tradition is to bake barmbrack, the traditional Irish sweet bread. Autumn is my favourite season, so much to enjoy.

    1. clairelomax2018 says:

I do love a good get to know you post as well. Lovely to learn more about the person behind the blog x

  38. This was a fun read Claire! We are not doing anything huge but the kids like to make the house a bit spooky and wear costumes. One of them is a glow-in-the-dark skeleton pyjama. My son sneaked in our bed and it was funny to see that little glowing skeleton lay between us 😀 Happy Hallotober xxx

  39. We don’t really do much for Halloween but I do like watching scary films.

    1. clairelomax2018 says:

Me too, I’m a big wuss but I do love the adrenaline feeling of being scared x
