Autumn is here and it’s time to snuggle down and spend time with our loved ones in front of some brilliant movies. Today I am sharing the spooky movies you need to watch this Halloween.
There are some great films available that sum up the season and with Halloween just round the corner, this list will offer plenty of spooky inspiration for you and the whole family.
I have tried to keep the family friendly ones as suitable as possible but I don’t want to cause sleepless nights for your little ones. You know them best and if you’re not sure of the film, check it out first.

So as you can see there is so much choice for all your Autumn viewing. It’s time to crack open the popcorn, light some beautiful candles, get the hot chocolate on the go and settle down to some amazing Halloween movies this year.
Do you enjoy Halloween related movies? What would your recommendation be?

Me and my girls love hocus pocus. Me and my other half Sarah have lots of movies planned as we both love a good horror/thriller 😁 Haunting of Hill House was so good, I think we’ve watched the series more than 4 times since its release. Great line-up.
I think I need to watch it again, the new one should have been out this year but I guess COVID put a stop to it!
Great post Claire! I love The Addams Family and Beetlejuice. Silent Hill and Candyman were super scary but I might have to watch them again. It’s spooky season after all!
It certainly is! We are working our way through them x
Whuaaaa, that’s quite a selection <3 thank you so much for going through all the trouble of selecting them. I can definitely vouch for Coraline and well, all Tim Burton ones. Tim Burton is the best!
Coralline is just so perfect x
I want to watch all of these! Hocus Pocus and The Addams Family are my favourite. I’m also currently re-watching Buffy the vampire slayer! Great post!
We’ve just watched the new Addams family and it was really really good x
Love these! I watch the nastiest horror movies without any problems, but Coraline always creeps me out haha.
Hahaha really! It is a little creepy
Some fantastic recommendations here, Claire! Hocus Pocus is a must, we LOVE all the Hotel Transylvania films and both Goosebumps movies are great. It’s just hit me that because of Disney+ we can actually watch the Halloweentown movies this year and now I’m so excited so thanks for mentioning that!
Yes I spotted them at the weekend and I’m VERY excited about it x
Those are all great choices! I watched a lot of them when I was younger
Me too, I think thats why I love them so much x
I think I’ve seen all the adult horror’s you’ve mentioned here. It’s my favourite genre and I loveeee my Horror! Although Coraline is my favourite story EVER. I love the book and the film. In fact I took a Coraline themed Insta photo yesterday! Great suggestions 🙂
Oh I’ll have to check that out. It was one of the first kids films rob made me watch and I just loved it x
Hocus Pocus is an awesome film, fab cast! I cannot believe it is almost Halloween. This maybe the first year ever we don’t have anyone knocking on our door! Sim x
It is going to be a very odd halloween indeed x
I can’t watch horror movies due to my overactive imagination. If a five-year-old can’t watch it, then probably neither can I. My boyfriend loves horror movies and can sleep like a baby after watching it – I’m starting to think there’s something wrong with him.
All the best, Michelle (michellesclutterbox.com)
I’m not great with some of the really scary ones. We have to stay up and watch a comedy series after!
There are so many incredible films on this! I absolutely adore Ari aster films especially midsummer which was just so interesting. I also love Tim Burton films, coralline being a favourite x
Midsommer was one of the oddest films I ever watched but there was something so compelling about it at the same time x
I can’t even wait!!!! I just decorated for Fall today so I am ready for all the movies!
Oh I need some fall decorations!
Who doesn’t love a good spooky movie to watch (at any time of year really) I keep meaning to re-watch Coraline.
I can’t wait to watch it again x
So many great suggestions here! I love watching Harry Potter, Hocus Pocus, The Craft, The Addams Family, Practical Magic and Carrie on Halloween!
Have you seen the new Addams family? We actually really enjoyed it x
I’m so excited to watch the spooky movies! Halloween is going to be so different with Covid restrictions this year so will definitely be watching a lot of spooky movies!
That was my thought, no trick or treating or parties! Have to make spooky fun at home x
I’m so ready for Halloween and spooky movies right about now. I appreciate the good sized list of family friendly options. I don’t get to binge watch horror movies like I used to now that I’ve got a toddler, but I still want to share some spooky movies with her!
Our kids have loved the ones we’ve already manage to watch this year. Ghostbusters went down very well x
What a great choice!! I used to be terrified of horror movies but I’m obsessed now. The adrenaline from anything that makes me want to jump out of my body is like none other.

I was the other way, loved them as a teen, then lived alone and couldn’t watch them, now I have a partner to hide behind I’m OK again 😂
Even though I love Halloween there are loads of the movies I haven’t seen. Somehow I’ve never seen hocus pocus, so I need to change that x
Oh you definitely do x
I do enjoy a good spooky movie! These all sound great for Halloween. My favourites have to be Death becomes her and corpse bride.
Yes! I am so looking forward to watching them this year x
I hope this wasn’t in order lol, there’s many of the films here I’ve watched and the kids, a good selection and some that y top 5 film genes over the summer, I purposely hold of these films to watch in October. great post.
No there’s no order, I could never pick a favourite 🎄
I honestly cannot believe I haven’t seen Coraline, it looks right up my street! Making it a compulsory film for me to watch this Halloween for sure!
🌿 Marissa Belle × marsybun.com 🌿
Oh enjoy Marissa, it’s lovely x
Whilst I have seen a few of these, I am not big on spooky movies but I definitely love Casper
That reminds me of my childhood, loved Casper x
Great lists! Love Coco and Coraline! My favourite horror film is The Entity.
Oh I’ve not seen that, maybe I should add that to our watch list this year x
I am so glad you included Buffy in here – I love rewatching both the film and the series!
I have not watched the film for a long time so looking forward to digging it out x
There are an amazing number of Halloween films. I like the nightmare before Christmas and all the Simpson Halloween specials.
Ah yes the treehouse of terrors are so good x
Some amazing movies you’ve listed Claire! Some are such classics! x

Thanks Lucy x
I love the family choices you made. Halloweentown has always been my favorite movie to watch. I also like Twitches which is another Disney movie. I also glad you adding Psycho to list of movies. It was one of the first horror/suspense movies I remember that actually scared me!
There are so many lovely family ones, picking just a small number of horror films is hard x
A fabulous list of movies and tv series to binge watch this Halloween since we may not be able to go trick or treating this year. My fav has to be Hotel Transylvania, The Addams Family, Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters
We watched all but beetle juice this weekend and had great fun! Kids loved ghostbusters in particular x
Ooo thank you lovely you have just made my life much easier, as this has saved me creating a list xxx
Enjoy x x
Great list you have here! I love spooky films on Halloween! I love Scream and Practical Magic. Oh and Hocus Pocus, definitely a favorite for young ones.
Scream is so cheesy but I still love it x
Wow! That’s a great list! A lot of my favourites made it too. Krampus is also pretty good although it’s also a Christmas film. 😊
Oh I will have to look out for that one x
This is such a great list! So many amazing films and quite I few I haven’t come across before. And I love that they’re sorted into categories. I’m totally bookmarking this to come back to, thanks for sharing!

Thank you Anika! Enjoy x
There’s SO many great movies on your list! Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without Hocus Pocus though, it’s one of my favourite movies ever 🙂
Louise x
It is such a great film x
Wow, Claire, this is such a brilliant list – I think you’ve covered just about every occasion for a spooky film. I’m a real wuss so the adult movies, with the exception of Witches of Eastwick, are off the table for me. But I love all the kids movies even though you left off Nightmare Before Christmas which IS a Hallowe’en movie too. And yes, I will die on that hill! X
I almost put that one on but swapped for the corpse bride, it will no doubt be watched on the run up to Christmas though x
I am not a big fan of horror/scary movies, but I would watch those Family oriented films. My children would love to watch those adult horror movies though. It would be fun to see which one of them would scream first. Haha. Thanks for the list. I am bookmarking them.
Thank you Kristine, I hope you and the family enjoy x x
Such a great list! I haven’t watched as many of these as I would like to!
Amber | The Unpredicted Page
Haha I definitely don’t do scary movies but the family friendly ones are right up my alley! Hocus Pocus is such a classic and I watch it multiple times every year. Thanks for sharing!
It’s such a classic!
I love Autumn and Halloween and this is a great list of movies for my favourite time of year.
Thank you Laura x
I LOVE Halloween movies, so I am all for this post. Every year for Halloween, I have to watch Hocus Pocus at least twice and all of the Halloweentown movies. They are just so great! I have seen some of the others but will have to try the ones I have never seen, like The Woman in Black I have been meaning to watch. For TV shows, I do enjoy American Horror Story but the earlier seasons definitely like you said. Thank you for sharing!
The later series were so bad!
Love Halloween and we love getting cosy and putting on the Halloween movies. Have seen all of these and love most of them 🙂
We’ve already started watching them as there’s so many to get through x
I love Halloween, Harry Potter, Hocus Pocus and Coraline are all firm favourites!
I can’t wait to watch coraline again, it’s been a while x
So many great movies there! And I love that you included some TV shows too. Our absolute favourite has got to be Hocus Pocus 😊 – you can’t have October without it.
I’m so glad that is a popular opinion! Everyone’s said the same x x
Oh this is such a comprehensive list. I can’t wait to watch some of these with the boys this year they are old enough for a large number of the kids ones.
I hope you all enjoy x
I’ve never watched Hocus Pocus and I’m 27!! I need to get on that!
Nightmare on Elm Street is definitely a classic and oh my gosh The haunting of Hill House is terrifying!!
Hocus Pocus is brilliant, I hope you got a chance to watch it x
I love this post!!
I always feel monster house is so under rated. It is such an amazing film and produced so well.
100% true blood. It’s the best TV show it did go a bit downhill in season 5 but it made up for it after that.
Can’t wait to go pumpkin picking and for autumn to come.
Thank you so much for this fun post
LJ xoxo
I hope you enjoyed your pumpkin picking. Agree Monster house is a classic, so well done. The kids were glued to it x
Yesss so many movies I just added to my must-watch list 🙂 Chilly weather is coming and it’s that time of year!
It is the perfect time to settle down to a movie x
It won’t be the little ones who will be scared – Coraline really freaked me out, aha! I’m definitely feeling the urge to start watching Buffy again and I never did make it the entire way through Angel… Hmm… Thanks for the recommendations!
I only watched Angel for the actor who played him 😉
This is such a brilliant list, whenever I try to think of some spooky movies to watch my brain keeps going blank so I’ll definitely be returning to this when picking my next choice. Although, I will admit that I do enjoy watching the old Scooby-Doo films and cartoons around this time too!
I was just talking to my hubby about how me needed some scary movie nights soon! Thanks for the great ideas! 🙂
I hope you both enjoy x x
Thanks for all the recs! I’m a scaredy-cat when it comes to scary movies but if I feel like watching one this autumn, I will choose one of the family-friendly ones :- D
Family friendly ones are more my thing too x
I love your extensive movie list! Hotel Transylvania, Coraline, Monster House, and The Witches of Eastwick are among my favorite seasonal films.
Also got a chuckle out of seeing Scooby Doo on your list! 🙂
Thank you! Scooby Doo is silly but the kids love it x
I love this Halloween post! Such a good collection of films! Will definitely be coming back to this every year!
Thank you Demi. Hope you squeezed some in this year x
