This week is Grief awareness week and I want to share with you 40 quotes you must read to understand grief better. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you will know that the subject of Grief is a huge part of my blog. In fact it is very much a part of who I am as well.
We all love a good quote don’t we? There really is a quote for every occasion and I love that. They are inspiring, encourage and certainly empowering.
Why is it important to understand grief?
It is often hard to understand something if you’ve never experienced it. Before I lost Mum, I hadn’t a clue. Once I was living the nightmare and joined this horrible club, It was only then I realised I’d never understood the enormity of it. I’d seen many a quote shared but it didn’t feel relevant to me. I could not connect to it.
Knowing what I know now, quotes like these really resonate with me. They spoke to me on another level. It’s like seeing all my thoughts and feelings laid out in a way I couldn’t put in to words.
For me, being able to understand grief better changed my perspective. Finally it was clear just how people felt about grief. What grief really felt like and the thoughts it leaves you with. This is why I wanted to share these today.
By sharing these quotes with you, I’m hoping that faced with your own grief or someone else’s, you’ll feel more connected to it. In turn more understanding of it.
It’s comforting to feel heard and it is very reassuring to know that the way you feel is completely valid. The wise words of someone who has lived this bring acceptance of your own emotions.
40 quotes you must read to understand grief better
That’s enough talk from me. I am going to let the pictures do the talking. Just a disclaimer, these are all quotes I have found on the Internet and Pinterest. I do not own them and don’t claim to. I created the images using the quotes I found online.

Blogmas day 3
I know this may not seem like the most blogmas related post, but grief is so important. Christmas is a really difficult time for anyone that has lost a loved one. No matter how much time passes, at Christmas their absence is felt even more than ever.
Sharing this, I hope that you can relate to these if you’ve ever experienced grief. I hope that these have given you an insight in to the way grief really feels.
Can you relate to any of these quotes or do you have another that offers you comfort? I’d love to hear them.

Beautiful lovely
Lovely sad post. It’s definitely one club I wish I wasn’t in. I’ve never known loss like it and I went through it twice.
I was in tears reading this because it couldn’t be more relatable for me. I lost my mom last year and every one of those posts couldn’t be more true. Christmas is the worst time of year for my grief, honestly. Sending thoughts your way to help you get through the holiday season.
This is a lovely – and sad – post. Some beautiful quotes x
These quotes are heart breaking but beautifully written, the pain of grief is something like no other and these quotes captured that feeling x

It is often said until you experience grief you don’t really know it and it’s true. These quotes are definitely helpful to try and understand grief.
I’m all for a good quote to boost motivation, I totally live by them! Not too sure how I would react to them when I’m grieving though, I’m best left alone in those circumstances. Christmas is a difficult enough time already for those who have lost someone close and definitely for those who cannot see own loved ones due to this bloody madness.
I didn’t think I’d ever relate to a quote until I read these, they have helped me a lot x
These are all wonderful quotes on understanding grief better, it’s not easy sometimes but knowing more as this helps

Beautiful, soulful quotes. I don’t think we allow ourselves or people in our society the proper chance to grieve here in the UK.
I totally agree. I felt so much pressure to be ‘back to normal’ and get back to work, that was really tough and I think I am paying for it still now x
Some of these quotes really got to me, especially about grief coming in ebbs and flows. I lost a very close friend almost two years ago quite suddenly and it does just hit me every so often x
It’s like a train when it hits isn’t it. So sorry for your loss x x
