So Lockdown 2.0 as it seems to have been dubbed is here. More importantly though, today is World Kindness day. Which means its the perfect time to share how to spread kindness during lock down.
Last year I shared another post on World Kindness day about how to make kindness part of your day. This year though we live in a very different world. One where, thanks to continued Lockdown, we may not come in to contact with people as much as we did before.
That doesn’t mean that we can skip out on kindness. It is needed now more than ever. As I said in my last post, you never really know what someone is going through. There are times where we will all struggle with the enormity of what we are currently going through. What we need to do is be looking out for each other and offer this support.
This won’t be so easy to offer right now but there are ways we can show those around us, friends, family and even total strangers, that we care. Show them that they are not alone.

How to spread kindness during Lock down
Lock down has had lots of us thinking outside the box. New businesses have sprung up, we’ve all learnt how to do everything over Zoom and we’ve taught our grandparents to facetime! Which means we can be a bit more inventive about the way we spread kindness.
Here are some of the things I will be doing during Lockdown to spread joy and kindness to those around me.
- Send doorstep gifts. Either use local businesses or you could make something yourself.
- Write to your friends and family. We all love receiving post right?
- Offer to do the shopping for those self isolating or those not wanting to face the shops.
- Check in on your neighbours
- Create self care packages for those you know need a little bit of time out
- A book swap. I know a lot of us ‘found’ reading again and probably have a lot of books that we can pass on to others. On a dry day why not leave some in a box with a note to passers by to take one home.
- Set up whats-app groups for colleagues, friends or family. Use the space to check in with each other, find out what people need, share funny pictures and memes and just generally stay connected.
- Send flowers. Who doesn’t love flowers?
- Record yourself reading a story book to younger family members
- Send positive postcards
- Support small businesses. So many wonderful people have started their own business and with Christmas coming it is time to support them rather than the Christmas giants!
- Send a coffee. Missing that coffee date with your pal? Why not hit up Uber eats and send them a fancy festive coffee!
- Donate to your local food bank. Honestly you’ll be amazed how much you can get for just a few pounds.
As you will know your family and friends better than any other, I am sure there are lots of other ways you can think of to spread kindness while we all stay at at home.
World kindness day
No matter what you do today, do it with kindness. Spread some joy and more importantly be kind to yourself today!
Has someone shown you kindness during lockdown that has really made a difference to you? What would you like to do for your loved ones?

Love this and what wonderful ideas 😍 I sent loads of little pick me ups to friends during lockdown 1.0 I really should again.
Love the idea of writing letters too. It’s been years since I wrote a letter to anyone.
This is such a great post! I especially love the send a coffee idea!
These are some really lovely thoughtful gestures that can spread kindness. Especially during these times extra kindness is needed for others and show ourselves the same kindness. Thank you for sharing.

Love this Claire. A bit of kindness goes such a long way right now. I know a lot of people are finding lockdown 2.0 difficult. Including me. So the little things definitely do make the biggest difference! xxx
How much i loved this post! It’s such a needed reminder that kindness is something to be shown all the time, through small gestures not just grand ones. I loved the idea of recording yourself reading a story. Actually, a publisher in Romania came up with this idea where they asked book bloggers to record themselves reading a story and post it on Facebook or Instagram. In exchange for every video, they donate books to children who can’t afford buying books 🙂
Some great ideas here, it really does not take a lot to spread a little bit of kindness and it really can make someones day x
I love all of these ideas! It was so nice to see everyone come together during the first lockdown – we enjoyed painting stones and leaving them around our local area 🙂
Some lovely ideas! I’ve been meaning to make a donation to a food bank for a while now! Thank you for the inspiration
I totally agree with all these tips let’s continue to make difference. We really ineed of these kind doings on these days.
These are some lovely ideas, during the first lockdown we woke up to some cake and soup on our doorstep once from the local coffee shop and it was so lovely.
This is such a thoughtful and lovely idea, truly. I am delighted every single time I receive post, and I think I will send a postcard to every single friend and family member this year. Just to remind them we are all together. Thank you so much for sharing!
I have been donating more to my local food bank. A little kindness can go a long way and really change someone’s life.
What a beautiful post, it’s so important to be kind every day and those are some brilliant examples of help you’ve listed. Just giving someone 10 minutes of your time for whatever it is, can make such an impact xo
This is a lovely post. Some great ideas there. It is important to spread kindness as much as we can especially now. I’ve donated money to help others.
Happy world kindness day! These are fantastic socially distanced random acts of kindness! I like the idea of the flowers and the letters. I also love video calls and felt like they made a big difference during the first lockdown. Thanks for the ideas!
These are some great ideas. I think lockdown has definitely showed us an insight into how lonely people can be and how being stuck indoors can affect our mental health. It doesn’t cost anything to check in on someone but it can make such a difference to someone’s life.
Such lovely ideas! I know quite a few people who really struggled through the last one so I’ve been trying to check in and offering them help if they need it for this time around.
It is so important to spread kindness, even now more than ever. What lovely ideas – I’ll definitely be giving some a go.
These are some fabulous ideas indeed. I have done some baking and passed it around to friends during the lockdown and done some shopping as well.
I love these ideas! I had no idea about Kindness Day at all, I’m going to have to start paying more attention.
There are some amazing tips and something that we need at the moment. A few of my favourites are sending flowers, checking on neighbours and older family members and donating to food banks. Thank you for more ideas for spreading kindness.
I love these ideas. And simple acts of kindness can really make the world of difference. Sending gift boxes from small businesses is a great way to show someone you care and support a small business. And who doesn’t get excited when they receive a parcel in the post! Thank you for all these wonderful ideas x
This is a wonderful blog. Being locked down and isolated really can make you feel so incredibly lonely. To care & know you are cared about in the smallest of ways makes all the difference. The strain on mental health is real. There is no need to spend a fortune or anything at all, these ideas are wonderful and can make a real difference to someone’s life.
These are all wonderful gifts to send during the lockdown, the perfect way to show kindness. I need to send some flowers

I love this post!. We need more kindness and it is such an easy and simple thing to do, sending a gift box from a small business is also such a great way to support a small local business.
I love the idea of World Kindness Day but it’s something we should practice every day!
I agree with you Claire that it’s so important now more than ever to spread kindness. I’ve received an unexpected food package from a friend one time and it was such a great feeling! I would love to surprise my friend who just gave birth with a self-care package or a takeaway meal. 🙂
These are great suggestions! While we’re sheltering in place, I try to reach out to my friends too even just to reply to their IG story. I also support small businesses because I know they’re the ones in need more than the big ones. Plus they are super appreciative!
i love the idea of sending doorstep gifts, would love to be on the receiving end of that. it is good to pay it forward
Thanks for sharing, these are lovely ideas to share kindness 🙂
This is a lovely list with such great ideas. You are absolutely right that we all need to help others and spread some kindness in any which way we are able.
What an amazing idea, I think this year might be just as hard as last year so we need to be just as kind. Thank you for these wonderful ideas!
I really think you’re right. It is going to be tough, I just hope 2020 has us prepped for anything this year can throw at us x
