With so many Amazing places to visit, I wanted to create my very own UK Bucket List.
A weekend in Wales
We’ve just returned from a weekend in Wales, Anglesey specifically.
The weather was a little against us, but we didn’t let that stop us from making the most of all Anglesey had to offer.
We explored Beaumaris and it’s ‘Greatest castle that was never finished’ and as they go it was pretty damn impressive if not a little hairy underfoot in the previous mentioned rain!
We also explored the Dingle, a beautiful riverside walk way that eventually leads to a reservoir which was equally breathtaking. A real hidden secret.
It was while walking this route that I realised how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country.
We discovered (not the first people ever of course!) Some stunning beaches this weekend and again I felt so blessed to be 3 hours away from such beauty.
As we took the scenic route home, taking in all Snowdonia has to offer, despite the heavy rain and mist, following the river along the road just confirmed what wonders there are to be find all over the UK.
Location, location, location
As we live in the Midlands, no where is too far and it made me realise that we really do need to make the most of it.
There are so many great places to visit on our doorstep, and we probably have covered most of them but it’s time to think bigger than our little county and really explore all this country of ours has to offer.
Amazing places to visit – UK Bucket List
I know this is not a popular phrase with all. But if the last year has taught me anything, it’s that life is too short and we should spend all our time here making every day special.
Rather than waiting until we have more free time, more money in the bank or waiting until the children have grown up. Filling life with experiences is what makes a full life to me.
So here it is, my UK bucket list. A list that I hope will be ever growing.
1. Cambridge
I love a list, especially when I can tick things off it straight away!
We visited Cambridge at the end of April for a weekend. I’ve never been before but felt it was a great place to start.
We wanted to walk down the river and see the university and get a real sense of the history around it.
We couldn’t help but be a little underwhelmed, but I think that the weather not being in our favour was instrumental in this. I’d had hopes of picnicking by the river in the sunshine and taking a punt down the river.
Not to be put off though, we do have a groupon voucher to use to do just that. So we shall return Cambridge, this time with the children and hope the sun brings out the magic I feel Cambridge in the rain was hiding.
2. Anglesey
Rob and I have always talked about sharing our childhood haunts with each other. Anglesey was the first stop. Many a childhood memory was made here thanks to my Great Grandparents home being here. We spent time here as children and it was magical. It was really important I got to share this with Rob.
We were able to explore a huge amount of the Island very easily given its size. We also did it relatively cheaply. Our only costs were parking and entrance to Beaumaris Castle and at just over £14 for 2 adults. I didn’t think it was too bad. We’d have stayed much longer and probably had our picnic there if the weather had been better.
There is so much to see that you really don’t need to spend a lot of money. We saw some beautiful beaches, there is of course plenty of walks and costal walks to discover and historical sites to explore. I didn’t actually expect to enjoy looking round burial chambers but there is something really special about them.
I am keeping this one on the list because there is so much more I want to see and do but with the children next time.
3. Bourton-on-the-Water
I’ve been here a few times over the last few years, but again childfree.
Now if you’ve ever been on a nice day you’ll no doubt have seen lots of children playing in the water and I think it is so lovely. I am desperate to take the children and let them enjoy being kids. Plus the smell of the fish and chip shops and the water on your feet and you could feel as if you’re at the seaside!
It is one of the prettiest places I have visited in the UK and if it wasn’t for all the tourists I’d live there!
4. London
Now if you know me at all, you’ll know I love London. I love the history and the fact that around every corner is something wonderful to see. (Plus the Queen lives there and it makes it easier to stalk her!)
F and I have been loads of times but I’d really like to take the girls on a tour of my favourite place.
5. Oxford
Like Cambridge, I am really keen to explore Oxford. I have been many times before but I have never seen anything other than the insides of relatives houses.
Let’s just hope we get a better day than we did in Cambridge!
6. Norfolk
I have recently read a lot of blogs from Lyndsey at Me, Him, The dog and a baby and it has really made me want to go back. I think I was 10 or 11 when I last went but there is so much to do there, plus it’s so pretty.
Maybe a little camping trip is needed Mr P??
7. Liverpool
I went to Liverpool for the first time last year and I loved it. I was hoping to do lots of sight seeing but I needed a dress for our blessing the next day so poor F got dragged around every shop I could think of, Poor kid!
So this summer I am going back and taking F and my Dad with me. My Dad’s side of the family hail from Liverpool way back and he is also a huge fan of the Beatles.
We did go to the Cavern club last time we were there and I can’t wait to share how amazing the place is with my Dad.
8. York
Again, this is somewhere I have visited with my parents, I was probably around 16 at the time and maybe didn’t really appreciate it as much as I should have done.
But everyone always tells me how wonderful it is. I do remember loving the Jorvik Viking centre though and I know the children will to.
9.Belfast
This one may not be possible this year but it will remain on the list. I have never been to Ireland at all but have always wanted to.
More than ever now since watching Game of Thrones. I really want to go and do all the tours and see these iconic places for real.
10. Bath
Another place that seem’s like somewhere I should have been but haven’t. I do love these old City’s. They have so much to offer and gives the history lover in me some fascinating insights in to the country we live in.
Ever growing list
There are of course many many other places I have either visited before that I want to go back to and or that I am yet to discover. But let’s take it one mini bucket list at a time.
And that’s before I even think about my Worldwide Bucket list!

I climbed Snowdon when I was 6 years old and it’s still on my ‘proudest memories’ list.

A great list Claire! I’ve been to a few of these places, as we did a Teacher Exchange from Australia for a year and loved being able to travel around on weekends. Wales is beautiful I agree!

For me, a lot about how I feel in terms of living in the UK is about the weather. I hate these cold and rainy summers and just long for REAL heat a lot of the time lol
We are not having much luck this year but I think we’ve done ok over recent years. It is so unpredictable though and miserable.
I love your bucket list! I haven’t been to Wales in many years now. There are still lots of places I would like to tick off in the UK.

The UK is really an amazing place to live and we really are so lucky to have so many gorgeous places to visit – I think we only began to truly appreciate it once we had lived in Asia for four years and then returned!
It looks absolutely gorgeous. I really hope to visit there someday! The unfinished castle looks really cool.

Great photos! I used to live in the UK for 5 years in my twenties. I love it there and visit frequently. Bourton-on-the-Water is somewhere I used to go to a lot with my Grandmother – she loved it there 🙂 So much beauty and I can’t wait to finally take my husband over for a visit 🙂

Oh I LOVE Snowdonia. I stayed in a gorgeous cottage literally in the middle of the mountains a few years ago and it was breathtaking. The only one here I wouldn’t agree with is London. But that’s cos I live 20 minutes away from London, I’ve seen it all and I hate it haha! I really want to go to Bath and I’m hopefully going to stay with a blogging friend this year who lives in Bath!
I used to love in London as a nanny when I was 19 and I just loved it. I know I couldn’t live there now though. I just love all the history of it.
Snowdonia is so much prettier than I remember it to be. I’d love to stay right in the thick of it.

I’m just looking for an air bnb for the first weekend in July. It’s hard for the 5 of us. But there is no point in camping for just one night, too much bloody hassle 😂😂

I’m going last weekend in June. Managed to find a cheep hotel right in the centre and got train booked in advance! I realise I’m only paying for myself…it gets expensive with children I would imagine. Weather or no weather I need a damn break! X

WOW! I absolutely love all the pictures. Makes me really want to go. I guess when we live somewhere so long we ignore the beauty. There is so much beautiful things around us that we can enjoy if we allow it. I agree we have to explore and stop worrying so much about stacking money in the back. We only have so long to live so we might as well enjoy it. 🙂

I really love living in the UK. As a family we’ve decided to have more staycations in the UK. We’ve had some amazing trips travelling to some of our fantastic cities.
Fish and chips by the stream in Bourton on the Water is legendary! Bird Land is good there too. Yay to a bucket list – why not. Xx

We are super lucky to have SO many lovely places to visit in the UK. We don’t really realise until we get exploring these hidden places. We visit Scotland at Christmas and that was WOW!
I’ve not done enough of Scotland, I should have put it on the list!
I’ve lived in Scotland, England and Wales and they were all great in their own ways. Would love to go back to Cardiff, and would love to make it all the way down to Cornwall. Here in Scotland, the Outer Hebrides are on my Bucket List.
The UK is one of the gorgeous places I’ve lived in. Before moving to UK this is my dream destination.

I’m lucky to live 10-15 minutes from the Lake District! We do enjoy travelling to other parts including north and south Wales, London, Scotland and Yorkshire to name just a few.

I went to University in Bangor so I love Snowdonia. I am used to seeing it in all weathers. My grandfather come from the Cotswolds so I also know Bourton on the Water quite well. Last year we were lucky enough to take a cruise right round the British Isles and visited Jersey and the Orkney Isles.

I haven’t been to Belfast or Anglsea but I have done the others on your list. Cambridge is beautiful … even in the rain but you need info so you know where to go. Google what to do in (town of choice) when it rains, you will be amazed how much there is when you know. A romantic punt with a bottle of fizz and strawberries on a summers day is lovely a midnight tour. Exhibits of students art at the end of exams is a sight to see, finishing with a meal at Browns. Or a moving shakespear performed in the great halls and church yards. Atmospheric and magical, I hope you try again. Add Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham a stones throw from each other in Suffolk, small but perfectly formed.
